Have you ever heard anyone say " if you are always trying to be NORMAL, you will never know how AMAZING you can be?" This is something that always has stuck in my head! My other Cooped Up Mama Candace and I were talking last week about being a girl and growing up. So many times, other people try to make us change, or we feel the need to have to change because of the way the world is, the way other girls dress, talk, act ect. All along the way, we strive to be somebody were not. I know for me this started early in middle school. Some of the friends I had were not really friends. I would try to do the things they did, dress the way they did and never really figured out who I was. I didn't understand that I didn't have to be like them. What I considered to be normal was different. Little did I know that different wasn't such a bad thing, although I had a hard time accepting that back then! There were some days that I wanted to be my own self but definitely wasn't brave enough to do so! I look back and realize how far I have come in life, in my relationship with the others and most importantly my walk with God. Honestly I can say that I truly didn't understand who I was until I knew who I was in Christ, and still sometimes I have to remember to stand on what He told me. He told me I am beautiful, I am worthy, I am called and I am HIS! I have come to the realization that God loves me just the way I am. This means that I don't have to be that specific person that dresses a certain way, acts the way others act, or even does what others do! I can be me and truly walk in who He has created me to be!
For me, I always struggled with the way I looked and what I could or couldn't be. Someone once told me that I had to be only one specific way and thats all I could be. Well, I don't want to only be one person. I want to be that person who can freely be me. Once I realized that I could be just that, I gained the confidence to walk in who I was. I can be a cowgirl and wear my boots and my button downs while still being a workout fanatic, and a skinny jean lover! I can wear my crochet slouchy beanie, my leggings with leg warmers, yes leg warmers and my brightly colored aztec shoes! What I choose to wear and look like doesn't change me. Although some people may think that it does, it doesn't. I remember going to home depot wearing my brightly colored leggings with Ugg boots, a loose shirt with my slouchy beanie and my nerd glasses. I remember being looked at funny because I gave the impression that I was just some girl "trying" to load about 30 bags of concrete and 50 2x4x12's. Although no one ever asked to help me, they just stared and came to realize wow a girl can do that, while little did they know I live on a ranch and this is easy work! We all come to judge so quickly when we shouldn't. I encourage you to think kindly and act kindly and not judge before you know the story behind someone or who someone is. And, while you do that, be YOU! Be the creative, inspirational person. Unique in your own way, making your own style, and just plain being you! You are beautiful, you are worthy and no one is more YOU, than YOU!
These are just some photos of our family being us! In these you will truly see that we are who we are and each picture we may look like a different person, but were still just us! Embrace who you are and don't let anyone hinder who the true you is! God loves you just the way you are whether your a cowgirl, a city girl, got curves or not, have tattoos, piercings, purple hair or just blonde. God loves you!
